After the murder, the couple fled, stealing money and checking into a hotel before being traced to Wisconsin. Gypsy’s Facebook post raised suspicion, leading to their arrest on charges of murder and armed criminal action.
In July 2016, Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, receiving a 10-year prison sentence. Her testimony revealed the plan to kill her mother as a desperate attempt to break free from the abuse.
Nicholas Godejohn’s trial, held in November 2018, saw him found guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. His defense argued manipulation by Gypsy, but he received a life sentence without parole plus an additional 25 years.
