1 Kanishak Kataria (IIT Bombay)
- IIT: BTech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay (2010-2014)

- Born: 26 September 1992, Jaipur Rajasthan
Kanishak Kataria is an IIT Bombay alumnus, and an IITian IAS officer. He topped the UPSC Civil Services Examination in the year 2018 with AIR 1. Kanishak Kataria IIT rank was 44 in the year 2010. He completed his BTech degree in Computer science and engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in the year 2014. He is the one to have topped the UPSC exam on his first attempt, having maths as his optional subject.
After completing his studies, he worked as a data scientist in South Korea in an MNC and then in Banglore, but then the patriot in him made him quit his job and crack India’s toughest exam.

2 Gaurav Agrawal (IIT Kanpur)
- IIT: BTech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur, (2001-2005)
- Exams cleared: UPSC(2012, 2013), CAT(2005) , IITJEE(2001) exam
Gaurav Agrawal is an IITian who cleared not just one but multiple competitive exams including civil services exams like UPSC. He cleared the IITJEE exam in 2001 with AIR 45, then pursued his BTech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur. Then, he cleared the entrance exam for MBA colleges and scored 99.80 percentile in the CAT exam. He completed his MBA in finance from IIM Lucknow and also received a gold medal.
But being an IIT-IIM alumnus was not enough for Gaurav and he cleared the IAS exam not just once but twice. He first cracked the UPSC exam in 2012 with AIR 244, and for the year 2013, he reappeared for the exam and cleared the exam with AIR 1. Gaurav Agarwal is currently posted as IAS in Rajasthan.
3 Praveen Kumar (IIT Kanpur)

Praveen Kumar from a small village, in Jamui, Bihar is an IITian who became IAS in the year 2020. Praveen did his schooling at Ramakrishna Vidyamandir. And due to his hard work, he made it to IITs. He completed his B.tech in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in the year 2017. Not just this, but after graduating in the year 2018 he cleared the GATE exam and secured AIR 5. And also cleared the Indian Engineering Services (ESE) with Rank 3.
Before appearing in civil services, he was working in Indian Railway Services. Buhe aimed to become an IAS so, he continued his preparation for UPSC with his hard work, and as a result, he topped the exam and got a RANK 7 in the UPSC exam. And, now he is an IITian IAS officer.

4 Ajay Kumar (IIT Kanpur)

- Born: 2 October 1962
Ajay Kumar, one of the IITians who became IAS and served the government for years. Ajay Kumar is an officer of the Indian Administrative Service, of the batch of 1985. He is famous for serving as the Defence Secretary of India from 2017 to 2019. Kumar has his Bachelor of Technology in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Thus, making himself an IIT Kanpur Alumnus.
Then he pursued a master’s degree in development economics from the University of Minnesota, and a PhD degree in business administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
Kumar, an IITian IAS officer, has served in various posts in both the Government of India and the Government of Kerala. He established the iDEX initiative to help create a conducive and cost-effective defence start-up ecosystem. His idea was to foster innovation and technology development.
5 Raj Kumar (IIT Kanpur)

Raj Kumar is another IITian who became an IAS for the sake of his passion to serve the country. Raj Kumar is a native of Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh. He is an IIT Kanpur notable alumni who made it to civil services. He also completed a part of his education at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Tokyo.
He is a Gujarat cadre IAS officer of the 1987 batch. After joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1987, he has worked in various leadership roles in public administration.
He has held several policymaking positions in Finance, Energy, Social Security, Agriculture, and Internal Security sectors in both the State and Central Government. Raj Kumar is the 31st Chief Secretary of Gujarat. Raj Kumar also holds the additional charge of the Industry & Mines Department.
6 Nagendra Nath Sinha (IIT Kanpur)

Shri Sinha is another IITian IAS officer who holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Kanpur (1985). He also did a Masters’s in Health Sciences from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. He has held sensitive assignments both at the Central Government and the State Government (Jharkhand & Bihar).
Nagendra Nath Sinha, IAS (JH-1987) took charge as Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, New Delhi on May 27th, 2020. His major interests lie in sustainable development, the use of ICT, Infrastructure, Health and Institution Building.
7 Ajay Bhushan Pandey (IIT Kanpur)

Ajay Bhushan Pandey is an IITian who became IAS in the 1984 batch to the Maharashtra cadre. He is the former Finance Secretary of India. He is also the former chief executive officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Pandey gained a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). Apart from that he has also earned a Master of Science degree and a PhD degree in computer science from the University of Minnesota under Jaideep Srivastava.
He also worked as the chairman of the Goods and Services Tax Network from September 2017 to March 2021.
8 Praveen Kumar (IIT Kanpur)

Praveen Kumar is an IITian IAS Officer from the 1987 batch of the Tamil Nadu Cadre. He is presently working as IAS Officer from the 1987 batch. Before this, he handled various important positions in the State Government as well as in the Central Government, where he was involved in Policy Formulation and Implementation of various Public Departments. Praveen Kumar completed his B.Tech and M.Tech in Metallurgy from IIT, Kanpur.

9 Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan (IIT Kanpur)

The IIT Kanpur alumnus, and IITian IAS officer, Dr Ranjan received his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Kanpur, MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University and M.Phil. (Economic Development) from the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom. Dr Ranjan also completed his PhD and received a degree in Masters.
Dr Sanjeev Ranjan has served in the Indian Administrative Service for over 35 years and has extensive experience in formulating public policy on finance, logistics, power and infrastructure development. He took the post of Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping on 30th April 2020. Also, he previously served as Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
10 Durga Shanker Mishra ( IIT Kanpur)

Durga Shanker Mishra is another one on the list of IITians who became IAS. He became an IAS of the Uttar Pradesh cadre in the 1984 batch. He is the current Chief Secretary to the Government of Uttar Pradesh. He has served as the Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary and Chairman of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Mishra is an IIT Kanpur alumnus who completed his BTech in electrical engineering from IIT Kanpur.
He also holds an MBA degree in international business from the University of Western Sydney. He has earned many other degrees. Mishra has served as Principal Secretary (Appointment and Personnel), Secretary (Tax and Registration), Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), and many other critical positions during his career.
11 Upendra Singh (IIT Kanpur)

Shri Upendra Prasad Singh is an IAS Officer of the 1985 Batch of Orissa Cadre. He is also an IIT Kanpur alumnus who did his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, Kanpur and M.Tech in Industrial & Management Engineering from the same Institute.
He has worked in several departments in Odisha. Some of them are Land Revenue, Social Justice & Empowerment, Energy, Transport, Finance, Water Resources, Industries and Agriculture & Cooperation. He also worked as PS to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism during 1997-98 and as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
12 Sanjay Agarwal (IIT Kanpur)

Sajay Agarwal is a UP cadre IAS officer of the 1984 batch. He completed his B.Tech & M.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from IIT. Kumar worked on several important posts in the state and was also on Central deputation. He was CDO of Meerut from July 1988 to May 1990. He held the post of Joint Secretary in the UP government from September 1990 to July 1993.
From May 2001 to March 2002, he was assigned as Secretary to Chief Minister. The IITian IAS officer went on deputation to the Government of India as Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Ministry of Textiles, from January 2005 to August 2010.
13 Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi (IIT Kanpur)

- Known for: Secretary of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy
Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, IITian IAS officer, took charge as Secretary of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy in May 2020. Chaturvedi is a 1987 Batch IAS officer and belongs to the Jharkhand cadre. He succeeded Shri Anand Kumar in the Ministry. Before this appointment, Shri. Chaturvedi was serving as Additional Chief Secretary and Additional Secretary (Climate Change Department) of the Ministry of Climate Change Department, Environment & Forest, Government of Jharkhand.
Shri Chaturvedi is an IIT Kanpur alumnus, who completed B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious IIT- Kanpur. Along with a BTech degree, Shri Chaturvedi also holds a P.G. in International Development from Harvard University (USA). He has worked in the Government of Jharkhand and the Government of India at various positions including field and policy level.
14 Sanjeev Gupta

Sanjeev Gupta is an IAS from1985 batch. He is serving as Additional Secretary, at the Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI, and Former President & CEO National e-Governance Division (NeGD). Sajeev Gupta did his Bachelor of Technology in Electronics at IIT Kanpur. From the year 2009-15 he served as the Joint Secretary, of the Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Government of India; and from 2015-16 he served as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
Sanjeev Gupta has worked at a senior level in the field of IT in the State Government & Government of India.
15 Giridhar Aramane

Giridhar Aramane is not the last in the list of IITians who became IAS but the last name in this article. He served as the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH). Before joining as Secretary, MoRTH, he held the post of Additional Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat.
Aramane is an IITian graduate who did his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad and M.Tech. from IIT Madras. He has also done M.A. (Economics) from Kakatheya University, Warangal. Aramane has 32 years of experience in the Indian Administrative Service. During this time, he has held various important portfolios in the State Government of Andhra Pradesh as well as in the Central Government.
