Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and Alphabet Inc., is a notable alumnus of IIT Kharagpur. Pichai Sundararajan or say Sundar Pichai is an Indian American business executive.

His name is widely reverberated among the list of most influential leaders in the global technology industry. Born in Chennai, India, Pichai’s journey to success began with his education at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. He completed his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He also holds an MS in material science and engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar. Sundar Pichai’s IIT rank was good enough to land him into IIT Kharagpur, however, Sundar Pichai’s 10th, and 12th marks were quite mediocre.

During his time at IIT Kharagpur, Sundar Pichai exhibited a keen interest in technology and innovation. Computer Scientist, Professor 

Pushpak Bhattacharyya is a prominent figure in the field of natural language processing and computational linguistics. Pushpak Bhattacharyya served as the President of the Computational Linguistics Association. Bhattacharyya hailed from Kolkata, India. He completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees (B.Tech., M.Tech.) in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. After that he earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from IIT Bombay, specializing in natural language processing.

Currently, he is the head of the Research Group Center for Indian Language Technology (CFILT) lab at IIT Bombay for Natural language processing. Today, Pushpak Bhattacharyya is widely recognized as a leading authority in NLP. He was also awarded the “Patwardhan Award of IIT Bombay for Technology Development,” “The VNMM Award of IIT Roorkee for Technology Development,” “Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering,” and “The Eminent Engineer Award of the Institution of Engineers.”

Economist, Retired IAS Officer

Duvvuri Subbarao, an economist, retired IAS Officer, and former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is a notable alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.

Born in Andhra Pradesh, Subbarao received his M.Sc degree (Physics) from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur after relieving his administrative duties in 1978.

Following his successful stint at IIT Kharagpur, Subbarao pursued a Master’s degree in Economics from the Ohio State University in the United States. He also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the Harvard Kennedy School. Armed with a diverse educational background Duvvuri Subbarao went on to occupy many influential positions. He served as the 22nd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2008 to 2013.

Arjun Malhotra is an accomplished entrepreneur and technologist. He was born in Delhi. Malhotra obtained his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Electrical Engineering in 1965.

After completing his education at IIT, Arjun Malhotra co-founded HCL Technologies in 1975, along with Shiv Nadar. Besides this, he also founded TechSpan, and then he served as a chief executive officer of a US-based firm.

Malhotra was awarded many prestigious awards, including Albert Einstein Technology Medal in 2001, Dataquest Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018, Dr. B.C. Roy Gold Medal, Honorary Doctorate from Punjab Technical University in 2013.

Motivational Speaker, Mountaineer

Malli Mastan Babu was a famous mountaineer and adventurer hailing from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. He was an extraordinary individual known for his passion for mountaineering. After completing his undergraduate studies in Metallurgical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, Babu conquered the world’s highest peaks.

He became the first person from Andhra Pradesh to summit the seven highest peaks in the world, collectively known as the Seven Summits in the shortest time at that point. He achieved this incredible feat in a record-breaking time of 172 days. Also, he became the first Indian to climb Carstensz Pyramid and Vinson Massif.

Tragically, Malli Mastan Babu’s life was cut short in 2015 during an expedition in the Andes mountains. The IIT Calcutta awarded Mastan Babu the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2011.

After that Arvind Kejriwal pursued a career in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) as a civil servant.
