Balaram did his schooling at Rishi Valley School in Andhra Pradesh.

He completed his Bachelor of Technology course from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India in 1980, and further went on to receive his MS and PhD in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York. He is one of the famous IIT Madras notable alumni.

Bob Balaram – IITian in NASA

Bob joined NASA’s JPL in 1985 after finishing his doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York. He worked at NASA as a robotics technologist.

He worked at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Mobility & Robotic Systems Department. He was a scientist from IIT who was the first ever person to have invented a machine that flee from the Earth and landed on Mars on April 19.

Ingenuity’s helicopter flight lasted just 30 seconds in the Martian atmosphere.
