Dean Benson Phillips was born in 1969 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is the son of DeeDee and Artie Pfefer. Tragically, Artie lost his life in the Vietnam War when Dean was just six months old. Dean Phillips entered the political arena by running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Minnesota’s 3rd congressional district in 2018. He continued his tenure by winning re-election in 2020 and 2022.
In the 118th Congress, Phillips serves on the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Small Business. He is also a member of various congressional caucuses, including the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, the New Democrat Coalition, and the Problem Solvers Caucus.
Dean Phillips made headlines by announcing his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on October 27 in Concord, New Hampshire. However, his prospects as a candidate remain uncertain, given his relatively low national recognition compared to other contenders.
